Repower America

What's New

As the U.S. Senate considers historic energy legislation, we're calling on Sens. George LeMieux  and Bill Nelson to work to pass a strong bill that will repower America with clean energy and stop global warming before it’s too late.

In June, the U.S. House passed the  American Clean Energy and Security Act, a historic bill that takes an important step toward a clean energy economy.

Now we're helping to organize support to overcome the powerful opposition of the oil and coal industries and other special interests and convince the Senate to take strong action to repower America.

How You Can Help

Sign a petition to Sens. LeMieux and Nelson asking them to commit to support a strong bill that will repower America with clean energy, protect our environment, and help rebuild our economy.

Summary

It’s time to repower America.

We’re working to cut global warming pollution 35 percent by 2020, make the big polluters pay for their mess, and invest in clean energy, efficiency and our future.

Consider that:

• Using the emerging technology of ocean current turbines, we could meet more than 40 percent of Florida's electricity needs by harnessing energy from the Gulf Stream off the Miami coast.

• Florida's solar power potential is tremendous, and generating electricity from sunshine creates more jobs than any other energy source.

• Money invested in making our buildings more efficient creates seven times more jobs than investing the same amount in coal.

• We can put thousands of Floridians back to work — installing solar panels, making more hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars, building wave and wind turbines, and helping us save energy in our homes.

President Obama’s plan would:

• Cut global warming emissions from power plants and other sources.

• Hold big oil, the coal industry and other polluters accountable, and make them pay for their pollution.

• Invest this money in clean energy, energy efficiency, our families and our future.
